Released on January 7, 2026, this version marks a turning point in the chromatic grammar of the 1906L: for the first time, the colorway opts for stark contrast rather than coherent monochrome. A piece designed by Charlotte Lee, EMEA design manager at New Balance, which extends the hybrid conversation initiated by the Junya Watanabe MAN collab at Paris Fashion Week.
The Black Angora colorway features a precise bichromatic cut. A breathable black mesh base forms almost the entire upper, covered with glossy black synthetic overlays that provide the characteristic patent leather look of the model. The vamp, the section under the slip-on strap, features a creamy Angora mesh patch that creates the only true visual accent of the pair, like a contrasting shirt collar under a dark jacket. The ABZORB SBS pods on the heel feature discreet metallic silver accents, and the lateral N appears in a slightly nuanced finish to preserve the tonal purity.
Underfoot, the model's technical base remains intact: N-ergy cushioning in the midsole borrowed from the 860v2, ABZORB SBS pods in the heel, comfortable Ortholite insole, and Stability Web under the arch. The slip-on format replaces laces without sacrificing support.
