Nike Air Max 1 Essential Vamps: an Air Max 1 in black, grey, and red, released at the end of December 2024. The name Vamps is not new to Nike. The sneaker press links it to the black and red colorway of a 2003 SB Dunk Low, and Nike includes this reissue in its Cult Classics series. The brand has not provided further details on the inspiration.
The construction remains the one designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1987, with the visible air bubble in the heel. Here, the upper is made of breathable grey mesh, lined with black suede on the panels and a black leather mudguard. University Red appears on the Swoosh, the outsole, and the heel tab. Three touches, nothing more. It is this balance that gives the pair its charm.
A dark Air Max 1 can be worn all year round. With black jeans, a tracksuit, or grey cargo pants: the red of the Swoosh does the job all on its own. For those who want a darker Air Max 1 for winter, this is the obvious answer.
Regarding sizing, the Air Max 1 runs a little small in the forefoot. Take your usual size, or half a size up if you have wide feet.
