The Nike Air Max 1 Platinum Tint Dark Obsidian is one of those colorways that doesn't try to reinvent the silhouette, and that's a good thing. The Air Max 1 has had nothing to prove since 1987, the year Tinker Hatfield had the somewhat crazy idea of making the air bubble visible, inspired by the architecture of the Centre Pompidou. When the base is this solid, a good colorway is all it takes.
This one plays it understated. A white mesh base, wolf grey suede overlays, a mudguard tinted Platinum Tint, that very pale, almost pearlescent grey that Nike has favored for several years. The deep, almost black Dark Obsidian blue provides contrast where it's needed: on the Swoosh, eyelets, and outsole. Nothing is overdone. The white sole and its window to the Air unit complete a pair that checks the box for everyday wear without being mundane.
Released on February 1, 2024, this variation is for those who want an Air Max 1 that can be worn with anything, from raw denim to technical pants. The kind of pair you wear out before buying a new one.
