The Nike Kobe 11 Protro Mamba Day brings back one of the most historically significant pairs from the entire Kobe line. On April 13, 2016, Kobe Bryant played his last NBA game, scoring 60 points in his farewell. That same evening, Nike opened customization of the Kobe 11 on NikeiD to mark the occasion. Ten years later, to the day, it finally returns in a public release, and in Protro form.
The Mamba Day colorway retains its original recipe. A black Flyknit upper covered in gold numbers and dates tracing the player's career, from his 81-point game to his five championships, with the gold Sheath logo on the tongue. A small detail that distinguishes this edition: a "2026" tag on the back of the tongue, where the original allowed for custom text. Beneath it, a translucent ice-effect sole completes the look.
Where the 2016 version featured Lunar cushioning, this Protro boasts modernized cushioning to remain playable on the court today. This is what separates a re-release from a simple retro: the pair is as wearable on the court as it is collectible. Limited edition, strong symbolic significance, the tenth anniversary of a moment etched in fans' memories. This kind of release doesn't come around twice.
