ASICS Gel-Kayano 32 – all available pairs
The ASICS Gel-Kayano 32 is the latest evolution of the brand's most renowned stability shoe, on shelves since 1993. Thirty-two versions later, the objective hasn't changed: to support runners who log miles and need reliable support underfoot. This edition primarily emphasizes comfort: a reduced drop to 8 mm (compared to 10 on the 31), 2 mm more foam in the forefoot, and a redesigned upper. The rest remains true to what makes the Kayano: cushioning, stability, and durability. On this page, you'll find Gel-Kayano 32s in stock at The Last Step, each authenticated before shipment, in colors and widths sometimes hard to find elsewhere.
The Gel-Kayano 32, ASICS' stability benchmark
The Kayano holds a special place in the running catalog. For over thirty years, it has been the model for runners who overpronate (foot rolls inward upon impact) and those who want a solid daily trainer for long runs. The 32 doesn't reinvent anything; it refines.
Where old stability shoes used to impose a rigid block on the inner side, ASICS has, for several versions, switched to the 4D Guidance System. The idea: to guide the stride with the geometry of the sole, a wide base, and reinforcements, rather than with a hard piece. The support remains, but less rigid than before. To place the 32 in the lineage, the ASICS collection brings together the brand's other models.
What the Gel-Kayano 32 has under the sole
In detail, here's what makes up the pair.
The main foam is FF Blast Plus (in a lighter and slightly denser version than the previous one), the same family as on the Novablast and Nimbus. It provides firm rather than plush cushioning, consistent with the stability ethos.
At the back, PureGEL technology absorbs impact at the heel, useful for runners who land on the back of their foot. The stack height remains 40 mm at the heel and increases to 32 mm at the forefoot, resulting in an 8 mm drop, a first for a Kayano.
For grip, the Hybrid ASICSGRIP sole focuses on traction and durability. Above, a breathable engineered mesh upper, a reinforced gusseted tongue along the arch, a mesh pull tab at the heel, and reflective elements. The Kayano 32 is also available in several widths (standard, wide, narrow), which remains rare on the market.
Who is the Gel-Kayano 32 for, and how to wear it
The Gel-Kayano 32 is primarily aimed at runners looking for support: pronators, those who appreciate a stable base, and fans of long runs and easy jogs. It's not a speed shoe; responsiveness is not its forte; it's a comfortable daily trainer that eats up miles.
For sizing, it fits true to size. The 4D adjustment hugs the foot well, so if you have wide or voluminous feet, opt for the wide version. A useful tip: try them on at the end of the day, when your feet have swelled.
In terms of style, the Kayano retains its technical running DNA. For everyday wear, it pairs well with joggers, flowing trousers, or straight-leg jeans, embracing an athleisure vibe. If you're looking for a more retro and casual profile, its lifestyle cousin, the Gel-Kayano 14, remains the safe bet.
