The Air Jordan 1 Retro High Virgil Abloh Archive Alaska closes a loop opened in 2017. At the time, Virgil Abloh cut up the Air Jordan 1 with a utility knife for "The Ten," exposing the seams, foam, and internal structure, then inscribed "AIR" on the sole. This white version, first released in 2018 as a European exclusive, remained the most discreet and hardest to get in the entire series.
Now, it's being re-released globally under the Virgil Abloh Archive banner. The change isn't just cosmetic: the Off-White branding gives way to "V.A.A. for Nike," indicating that the pair is now driven by the designer's archive and not his brand. The rest adheres to the cult model. Deconstructed white upper, visible zigzag stitching, blue thread and orange patch breaking up the monochrome, plastic zip tie, and that famous large "AIR" on the side of the sole.
The Alaska colorway gets its nickname from its almost total white (the most complete white-on-white in the series), like a snowy landscape. This is the piece collectors have been waiting for since Virgil Abloh's passing in 2021, and the first truly wide release from his archive. The box follows suit: cutout packaging, translucent case, sketch booklet. Limited edition, of course. This kind of pair doesn't linger on shelves.
