ASICS Gel-SD-Lyte Pink Cloud Driftwood. An egg. According to ASICS, this is the starting point for the Gel-SD-Lyte: a shell and an inner membrane that protect the foot, just as an eggshell protects its contents. The midsole mold rises up onto the upper, giving the pair that wraparound look not found on a Gel-Lyte III or a Gel-1130 (two very good pairs, but much more classic in their construction).
The colorway plays with softness. A pale pink open-mesh base, cream overlays, a touch of grayish green on certain finishes: this is how the sneaker press describes this version. ASICS, for its part, sticks to the official Pink Cloud/Driftwood name without explaining the inspiration.
