New Balance 990v4 MiUSA Monarch Burgundy. A deep burgundy on pigskin suede, and that's about it. The 990v4 doesn't need anything else. This version is part of New Balance's Made in USA Fall/Winter 2026 collection, helmed by Teddy Santis, with at least 70% domestic content.
The official colorway, Monarch Burgundy, covers the suede and mesh upper. Sneaker press outlets describe dark brown perforated panels on the toe and sides, and a midsole tinted in a similar brown, for a fairly understated two-tone look. New Balance has not commented on the inspiration for this palette beyond its seasonal theme (neutral tones, blues, greens, burgundies, and browns).
The ENCAP sole, featuring EVA foam and polyurethane, remains faithful to that of the original 1982 990. The support is there. The comfort too.
Why this one over a gray pair? Because burgundy is rare on a Made in USA 990v4 and it pairs just as well with sand chinos as it does with raw denim. The gray remains an absolute standard, but this one has something warmer about it. It fits true to size; take your usual size.
