Some pairs need an introduction, and some pairs don’t. The Air Jordan 4 “Bred” belongs to the second group. On 28 November 2026, Jordan Brand brings back its most history-laden Jordan 4, and this time in OG form, with the Nike Air logo on the heel and the original silhouette. For many collectors, this is the release of the year’s end. Full stop.

We look at what sets this Bred apart from the previous one, what “OG” actually means here, and the best way to get a pair on your feet without losing too much sleep over it.

Why the Jordan 4 Bred isn’t just another Jordan 4

7 May 1989. Game five of the first round of the playoffs, Chicago versus Cleveland, three seconds left. Michael Jordan gets the ball, fakes, rises over Craig Ehlo and sinks the shot that sends the Bulls through to the next round. On his feet: a black and red Air Jordan 4. “The Shot” was born, and the Bred along with it.

Tinker Hatfield designed this fourth Jordan with a few firsts: perforated mesh on the sides and tongue, plastic “wings” for adjustable lacing, and a reinforced heel. All in a colourway that wasn’t trying to please everyone. Black, red, a touch of cement grey. The Bulls’ colours, no frills.

Since then, the Bred has returned in 1999, in 2008 in the Countdown Pack, in 2012, in 2019 for the shoe’s thirtieth anniversary, and then in 2024 in its “Reimagined” version. Six lives. The 2026 will be the seventh, and it is probably the most faithful to the original since 2019.

If you’re new to the range, our selection of Air Jordan sneakers gives a good overview of the silhouettes and their historic colourways.

Air Jordan 4 OG Bred 2026: what’s changed compared with the Reimagined

Let’s be clear: the 2024 Bred Reimagined wasn’t a bad shoe. But it divided opinion. Leather instead of nubuck, a slightly bulkier shape, a look more “lifestyle” than basketball. Some loved it, others waited.

The 2026 is the answer for the latter. In the first images, the pair follows the 1989 spec sheet almost line by line:

  • textured, matte black nubuck, just like the original
  • Cement Grey accents on the wings, mesh and midsole
  • Fire Red touches on the tongue’s Jumpman logo, the eyelets and the outsole
  • Nike Air branding embroidered on the heel, replacing the Jumpman of the 2012 and 2024 retros

And above all, the shape. Retailer images show a slimmer toe box, more cleanly recut panels and white midsole edges that rise slightly onto the nubuck, a 1989 detail that had disappeared on several retros. Jordan Brand has not yet officially detailed these changes, but on paper, this is the most “accurate” Bred produced in a long time.

The product code shown in retailer images is IX8180-001, for the Black / Fire Red / Cement Grey / Summit White colourway. Early announcements in late 2025 cited the reference FV5029-001: both are still circulating, and we will update this line on release.

A Bred in 2026: is it still worth it?

It’s a fair question. The Bred came out barely two years ago, and the Jordan 4 in general has never been in heavier rotation: Military Blue, Rare Air, White Cement, the Nigel Sylvester collabs. Fatigue could be a concern.

Honestly, that’s not the case here, for one simple reason: a Bred OG with Nike Air only comes out roughly once a decade (2019, then 2026). That’s the version collectors are after, not the Reimagined, not the RM, not the GS. The 2019 pairs still trade well above their original price on the resale market, and nothing suggests the 2026 will be any different once stock runs out.

Style-wise, it’s the black Jordan 4 that’s easiest to wear in the entire range. Jeans, joggers, wide-leg trousers, shorts in summer: the black and red goes with everything, and the touch of cement grey avoids a slightly flat “total black” effect. If you only ever own one AJ4, make it this one.

Release date

The release is expected on Saturday 28 November 2026, the day after Black Friday, with a SNKRS drop announced for 9:00 am; several US outlets still mention Friday 27 November, and Jordan Brand has not announced an official date. Jordan Brand is planning a wide distribution: SNKRS, partner Jordan retailers, and sizes for the whole family. Early rumours spoke of a generous run, but several specialist sources now point to a more limited production than recent retros. When in doubt, treat it as a limited pair: Breds, whatever the year, never stay on the shelves for long.

Where to buy the Air Jordan 4 OG Bred 2026 in France

Three routes. SNKRS first, with a draw on 28 November at 9:00 am: sign up in advance and check your address and payment method. Next, partner Jordan retailers (JD Sports, Foot Locker and other Jordan accounts), often via online or in-store raffles the week before. Finally, for those who miss out on the draw, all our Jordan 4 are authenticated and available online, with 24/48h delivery and Click and Collect in Toulouse, Biarritz and Montpellier. We will update this article on release day with the Bred OG product page as soon as it is available. In the meantime, the Air Jordan 4 Retro Bred Reimagined is in stock in most sizes, and for younger fans the GS version is also available.

A word on sizing: the Jordan 4 fits true to size, but the 2026 OG shape is said to be slimmer at the front than the Reimagined. If you were between two sizes on the 2024, it’s best to go half a size up.

The other Breds to know before 28 November

The Bred colourway isn’t limited to the 4. The same black and red has dressed almost the entire range, with varying degrees of success. Two safe bets if you want to round out your rotation:

TheAir Jordan 1 Retro High '85 OG Bred, released in 2025, which follows exactly the same approach as this year’s 4: original shape, Nike Air, zero compromise. The two pairs side by side sum up what Jordan Brand is doing best right now. Before buying a second-hand AJ1, our guide to spotting a fake Air Jordan 1 will save you from nasty surprises.

And to stay in the Hatfield spirit, the Jordan 3 and its historic colourways, led by Black Cement, share the same elephant print touch on the heel and the same 1988-1989 DNA as the 4.

For fans of a bolder red, the red Jordan 4 colourways bring together Fire Red, Red Cement and other variations that push things a notch further than the Bred.
