This is the question that stalls the shopping cart at the last minute. Should I buy my usual size, or size down because "everyone says they run large"? Let's answer this right away.
UGG shoes fit true to size: buy your usual size. This is the brand's own stance, and it's clear: "UGG slippers fit true to size," and "generally, UGG shoes do not run large." The only real case to decide on is for feet between sizes, as most models only come in full sizes. The rest of this guide is for that purpose.
Key takeaways in 30 seconds
· Your usual size, no further thought needed.
· If you're between two sizes, measure your foot in centimeters and refer to the table below. This is the method recommended by the brand itself.
· A Tasman is worn closer to the foot than a Classic Ultra Mini, but the size does not change.
· The pitfall: sizing down "because it's lined." The sheepskin takes up space; it doesn't shorten the shoe.
Do UGGs run large or small?
Neither. And that's precisely what confuses everyone: the brand claims a true-to-size fit, measurements confirm this (a size 39 corresponds to 25 cm foot length in women's sizing, exactly like most sneaker brands), yet many customers leave convinced that they run small.
The confusion comes from the feeling, not the size. The shearling lining fills the interior volume, and the foot feels enveloped all around. This feeling of being well-held is interpreted by the brain as "it's small." The result: people size up, and two weeks later, their heel slips with every step. The opposite error also exists, among those who size down anticipating that the wool will flatten, and whose toes hit the front within the first week.
A quick note on this, as it comes up all the time in stores. The wool compacts under the foot with use, and the shoe eventually feels larger, just like a new sweater stretches where pressure is applied. Good news, it can be remedied: a gentle brushing of the interior restores much of the loft; we detail the process in our guide on how to clean UGGs without damaging them. And most importantly, this compaction affects volume, never length. Your toes won't gain a millimeter.

UGG men's size chart
Beware, classic trap. For the same European size, UK and US equivalents are one step down compared to the women's chart. A 41 is therefore not a 41 according to the chart you are reading.

Measuring your foot: the brand's method
Two minutes, a piece of paper, and a pencil. This is the method given by the brand, and it's the one that helps avoid returns.
1. Place a sheet of paper on the floor, against a wall, and draw a straight line on it.
2. Standing, center your heel and longest toe on this line.
3. Mark the line at the end of the longest toe, then behind the heel.
4. Repeat with the other foot: they are rarely the same length.
5. Measure the distance between the two marks and note the longer foot.
Do this at the end of the day, when your foot has swelled a little (in the morning, you'll be measuring your foot at rest, not the one that will be wearing the shoe). Transfer the measurement to the table, and you'll have your shoe size without any guesswork.
Between two sizes: what to choose?
This is the most common and structural case: the majority of UGG models are sold in full sizes, with no half-sizes. If your measurement is 25.5 cm, no one will sell you a 39 and a half.
Our stance in store is clear: go for the size up, especially for a closed-toe model. An extra half-centimeter can be compensated for with a sock. A half-centimeter too small cannot be compensated for with anything. For open-back slippers, like the Tasman, the decision is more flexible since the heel is not constrained: in this case, going down a size is still viable if you prefer a very snug fit.
Size by model: Tasman, Tazz, Ultra Mini
Same basic sizing for all, but usage changes how the pair fits.
|
Model |
What you need to know |
|
Tasman |
Open-back slipper, foot well-enclosed at the front. True to size. |
|
Tazz |
The Tasman on a platform sole. Same sizing, more volume underfoot. |
|
Classic Ultra Mini |
Closed short boot. True to size, and size up if you're unsure. |
|
Lowmel and Disquette |
Low mules. The heel is free, the fit is determined by the front of the foot. |
Regarding availability, the Tasman offers the most choices in our store, in brown, beige and black. The Classic Ultra Mini brown and the Tazz beige complete the selection.
Socks or barefoot?
Barefoot. That's the whole point of the material, and that's how it's designed. Now, if you're the type to never take off your wool socks, anticipate it when ordering: a size up will be more comfortable. For thin socks or barefoot, stick to your usual size.
Are UGGs bad for your feet?
The question often comes up and almost no one answers it frankly, so let's go. A sheepskin slipper is not made for walking: flat sole, almost non-existent arch support, and on open-back models, the foot has to constantly work to keep the shoe on. At home, for a short trip, after skiing, or leaving the gym, no problem. Eight hours a day in the city, that's not their job.
And a pair that's too big makes everything worse: the foot slides with every step and compensates. Another reason to aim for the right size rather than too big.
How we verified this guide
The size correspondences and measurement method come from the official brand size guide, consulted on August 24, 2026. The recommendations by model cross-reference this guide with the sizes actually available in our catalog and what we see in-store. The compression of the wool and how to remedy it comes from our own care guide, where the subject is covered in detail.
Your questions about UGG sizing
What size UGGs should I get?
Your usual size. If in doubt, measure your foot in centimeters and refer to the table above: 25 cm corresponds to a 39 in women's sizing.
Do UGGs run large?
No. The brand indicates that their shoes do not run large and their slippers fit true to size. The snug feeling comes from the wool lining, not from an incorrect size.
Should I size down for UGGs?
No, unless you are between two sizes on an open-back model and prefer a very snug fit. For a closed boot, it's better to size up.
Do UGGs stretch over time?
The wool compresses underfoot and the interior volume relaxes, so the pair feels larger after a few months. A gentle brushing of the interior can restore a good part of it. The length, however, never changes.
How to choose your Tasman size?
As with the rest of the range: true to size. Since the heel is free, a slightly snug pair is still wearable, which is not the case for a closed boot.
Do UGGs fit like sneakers?
In length, yes: a size 39 remains a size 39, with the same 25 cm correspondence as most sneakers. The difference lies in the volume, which is fuller due to the lining, and the support, which is much softer than a sneaker upper. If you wear a size 42 in sneakers, go for a size 42.
Should I order online or try them on in-store?
If you know your foot length, ordering online presents no particular risk for this range, as the fit is reliable. Trying them on is only beneficial in one case: for wide feet, or a high instep on closed models.
The thing to do before ordering tonight: grab a piece of paper and a pencil, and measure both your feet. Two minutes, and you'll no longer wonder how UGGs fit. Our pairs are checked and authenticated by our teams, and pickup is available at our three stores. The real question remains, the one we can't help you with: brown, black or beige ?
