ASICS Gel-Kayano 12.1 Cocoa Powder Cream. A 2006 Kayano set on a Nimbus 17 sole. That is the very definition of the Gel-Kayano 12.1, a hybrid model that ASICS first designed with Kith before releasing it in in-house colorways. This one focuses on two shades: a cocoa brown (Cocoa Powder) and a soft cream.
The upper features the wavy overlays that are the signature of the Kayano 12, with an open mesh underneath to let air pass through. ASICS explains that this design is inspired by European gothic armor and its metallic structure, which is evident in the heel and midfoot reinforcements. On this colorway, the brown covers the overlays and the cream fills the mesh, which significantly softens the shoe's technical look.
Underneath, the sole comes from the Gel-Nimbus 17. Two GEL inserts (heel and forefoot) and a FluidRide structure, a platform originally designed for marathons. This is what makes the Gel-Kayano 12.1 so pleasant for a full day of walking, and you can feel it from the very first steps.
Cocoa Powder Cream can be worn with earth tones, beige cargo pants, raw denim, or khaki shorts. The brown is soft enough to go with grey as well. The pair is unisex, the fit is regular, and most wearers stick to their usual size.
